For your information.

My booking for this concert (details on this site in the 2011 schedule) has been confirmed, exactly as requested.

Wigmore said they did not expect huge demand, so if any member of this forum is suffering from live PJ deprivation then this could be option.

April - it may even be good weather (on the other hand, it may not).

Regards, Philip Connolly

Wonderful event last night at the Wigmore Hall. This jewel of a venue was packed out, a queue for returns greeting us as we arrived. Never heard so much applause, even for great stars like Joyce diDonato.

No intermission, a mixture of the sacred and the profane. The Stabat Mater and other religous items - quite appropriate for Easter Saturday - were stand out.

PJ and the rest were relaxed, signing CDs in the reception area afterward. Still there nearly an hour after the end

Good news for those not there, it was recorded for issue in the Wigmore Hall Live series. Huzzah!

Philip

Hurrahhh indeed!! Thank you for the information. Mind you, Iestyn Davies recital took ages to come out on CD. I hope they’ll do a better job for Phillipe.

Today's Times only awards 3 stars. Have to say I recognise - though not necessarily agree with - some of the criticism.

"..a hard glare has come into the weak top register..."

"...physical gestures have expanded alarmingly, as if in compensation for his lightweight voice."

"... some lovely tender intimate moments survivied: Monterverdi's Adagiati, Poppea and the early stage of Felice Sances's Stabat Mater."

To read the review in full you need to pay The Times website. I'd be happy to send anyone a scan. The Times

Philip

Is The Times review by Hilary Finch? She said much the same thing about Philippe and Andreas Scholl concert.

No it was Geoff Brown, who doesn't appear to be particularly anti

"No counter-tenor beats Jaroussky for pure, elegant soprano tone." (Review of Stabat Mater)

Philip and Everyone
Never mind The Times and Geoff Brown. Here is four stars from Tim Ashley of The Guardian and this is what he says (although he could have said a lot more about Philippe!!)

When he returned, at encore time, to Monteverdi's Ohimè Ch'io Cado and improvised a riff on it, the usually sedate Wigmore audience rose to its feet and cheered him to the rafters.
