Yes, a pity. I hope the concert in Neumarkt will be very different in terms of the orchestra and female voice.

By the way, I heard from someone from Neumarkt that the concert could have been sold out three times, that the people organising meanwhile are stressed with everyone clamoring for tickets when no more are there, and that they fear there will be people coming to Neumarkt hoping to be able to buy a ticket from somebody, which would be unsuccessful. So, lucky those few of us who have a ticket!
And I also heard that there will be some kind of invisible but constant security around PhJ, especially backstage, as seemingly some people think it necessary.

I'm glad Philippe's concerts are so successful but it's sad to hear about their worries about security...

I am probably naive but I don't understand why a security service would be necessary in backstage
PhJ is not a political man, just an excellent lyrical artist who performed her work
Who would want to him? It's crazy

It makes me think of a humoristic article appeared in a french newspaper after a concert at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in which the reporter wrote:
" the grandmothers were ready to throw him their bras"

Pilarddcc,
OK, then they'd only have to forbid wearing bras concerning the audience. That would also allow some very new perspectives for the artist, a real b to b deal.
Sorry, but I give a damn on rumours. I've already been in Neumarkt, oh yes, the rural locations are very dangerous in Germany....he is in danger not to find an open restaurant after the concert. rofl

They are not accustomed to something like this in Neumarkt. So it is frightning and they are rather safe than sorry. Heaven forbid some crazy fan would come and cling the poor boy to her ample bosom. He might suffocate in between the two Double D's!!

(Because I think that would be the only danger he might be subjected to. Nobody wants to harm him.)

Well, it seems they have a rather strange take on security in Bavaria. I still remember the bodyguards they had at PhJ´s signing in Nurnberg, I think it was. One or two looked as usual like boxers, it was impossible to get behind the table for photos because they were standing there blocking everything. I don´t think they or anyone had the foggiest idea what they were really supposed to do. And one of them was very young and trying very hard to look like James Bond, dangerous, he was looking from left to right and left all the time, waiting for someone to unpack a rifle probably. He must have felt quite dizzy after a while! It was sooo funny!

Astarto,
I think they have a rather strange take on many things there....sorry all you Bavarians in the forum, I have to say that, I am a "Nordlicht" flowers I know, Neumarkt is in Franconia not in Bavaria, people down there set a value on that fact.
It'll be a nice, comfortable event, only about 500 seats....I'm eager to read a report here after the concert. Perhaps those security men will throw little Philippe over their shoulders after the signing and carry him backstage.... lol

Oh, in connection with the great tour of Vinci´s "Artaserse", I thought it was already general knowledge that they have also recorded it? Seems that is not the case. Concerto Köln conducted by Diego Fasolis, with Philippe Jaroussky.
As far as I know, the other roles will be sung by the singers from the recording on the tour also. So, an all male cast and a countertenor festival. PhJ, Franco Fagioli in the title role, Max Cencic (who had initially been cast as Artaserse) as PhJ´s sister with some of the arias transposed down a little - it will be very interesting ... .
It is also a reason why PhJ has such great respect of Fasolis - he was very happy with the results of the recording sessions. And this is the first recording of Vinci´s "Artaserse"! So there will be a lot we can look forward to in autumn!
(I guess this should be in the CD-section, but I didn´t know where there to put this.)

Astarto,

I'm one of those who didn't know about the "Artaserse"-recording! What a great news! So Philippe is not only enthusiastic of I Barocchisti in general, but of Fasolis in special - and one could see it in Neumarkt: it was a great pleasure to see their interaction and kind of working together during the concert!

So in 2014 there will be a production of "Niobe" in Europe, with basically the same musicians as in Boston last year, right? I am so much looking forward to this! clapping
Do we already have any more precise information when and where? - Maybe different locations again, as the tour with Vinci´s "Artaserse" this fall?
Somebody involved in the production told me that the title role of Niobe would be sung by Karina Gauvin this time. As I love her voice and power of expression, I would appreciate this very much. And I hope they will have the same beautiful production and costumes!

By the way, I think it would be great if PhJ´s schedule for 2013 would be published soon, or at least some of the information. As some misguided reviewers already made it sound as if PhJ would sing much less and instead conduct or whatnot after his sabbatical, which of course is nonsense, I believe that it would be preferable to clarify soon that of course he will continue his singing career in 2013 and the following years! (As he told me, he is already booked out including 2014; the contracts are signed, so it is a clear thing.)
A pity that his official website is useless in terms of schedule, and that of his agency always behind in being published.

Oh, I so wish Karina Gauvin will sing the title role, the queen in Niobe. If she will, it is more than a dream ! Please let us all know as soon as anyone find the dates and location. Some of us has to make a travel plan way in advance. Also anyone knows
Philippe's Asian tour in late 2013 or early 2014. I have heard from the Japanese fans that last summer PhJ was in Japan this was on the topics.

SKinHawaii, I agree that Gauvin as Niobe would certainly be fantastic! She has the power and clarity of voice and expressive ability to make that dark figure come alive in a way that one will probably be torn between strong dislike and that subtle empathy that a great artist still awakens in the audience, even when he/she sings a nasty character. I have unfortunately never heard Amanda Forsythe live and thought she was very good; but I heard Gauvin was supposed to sing Niobe in Boston also, initially, so probably that is why. (I hope she is not taller than PhJ? Well, even if ... it will fit for the sort of relationship Niobe and Anfione have ...)

Edit: typo

Astarto: Well Niobe and Anfione's relationship aside, I am sure Miss Gauvin will make great presence on the stage with her remarkable voice and singing . smile Please let us know if you have any PhJ's Asian tour schedule as I live in the middle of Pacific ocean. I can go either direction, to Europe or Asia. It is about the same distance.

Dear Friends,

I will see PJ with Lemiwux in Paris (June 15). I also plan to see Alcina in Versailles 3 days before (June 12) with Gauvin.

Since I'm sure some friends from this list will attend these PJ's concerts, I'd be glad to know if someone will also be in this Alcina. It's a long opera and I could use a lift back to Paris instead of rushing to the Metro at around midnight.

Ah, Vivaldi, that would be the Alcina with Karina Gauvin, Ann Hallenberg and Delphine Galou, right? Oh my! swoon I wish I could hear that! Best cast of the year that does not include PhJ, at least to my taste!

Astarto, you had posted:
"A pity that his official website is useless in terms of schedule, and that of his agency always behind in being published."

In Stuttgart, I told Philippe Jaroussky short about the important necessity:
A website with an international schedule on time.

Few month later, EMI (Music Publishing) maked a "official website" for Philippe Jaroussky.
Ok— it´s only french language. tongue But better than nothing. embrace

And: In addition, we will fill up this serious forum with news ! Let´s help. clapping

On days, he will have the time for an international beautiful website.
I´m sure! yes
> In fact, it is normal practice to puplish the concert dates only one year in advance.
Some musician publish only 4 to 6 month in advance like Rolando Villazon and Angela Gheorghiu.

Ladies and gents,
please mind "Artaserse" it is a concert version. The tickets for Cologne will be sold from the beginning of May via the opera's ticket office. The opera of Cologne is under construction at the moment,
that's why it'll take place in the Musical Dome.

Saskia,
I agree, I saw them in Eckernförde (!) it was great. I only missed Jörg Buschhaus there.

The information about the programm of the theater will start at 7. Mai
at the news conference.
The man was very friendly. But he couldn´t give a information.

Max Emanuael Cencic and Valer Barna Sabadus have the dates in Luxembourg (Artaserse),
on their official website. think

Let´s wait. coffee
But I understand the need of information because of planing the own travel
and free time in advance!!! Finally, I decide to travel to Nancy.

Many, many thanks, Saskia! Your efforts are very much appreciated; if possible I would like to get to Luxembourg - although in view of the 8-month period of drought in 2013 (oh, misery, oh woe!) I shall endeavour to get to as many performances of "Artaserse" as I can regardless of destination!!

Indeed, I also got confirmation from Théâtre de Luxembourg about their programme being launched on 7th of May.

Thank you Saskia for the information concerning Cencic coming to Luxembourg. I will have a look on their websites. I would like to see him as well.

In case Luxembourg is cancelled, I suppose I will go to Nancy as well. When will tickets be available ?

Thanks !!

It is still an unpublished info here in Prague, but I already found it on the site of Venice Baroque Orchestra:

Wow, great info indeed, thank you, Jarofil! So, music by Leonardo Leo, Porpora and A. Scarlatti. And in between, on the 24th the orchestra gives a concert with someone else in Germany. Strange. It must be so hard these days to play in a baroque orchestra which travels so extensively! So he will do concerts in summer / early autumn, after all, wonderful!

Tickets for the OPERA "Giulio Cesare in Egitto",

Thank you for getting the info about free seats for Salzburg, Saskia! So those are seats for prices from 225€ to 370. No wonder that they´re not sold out yet! - Ladies and gentlemen, we can be really happy that PhJ asks only for modest fees, so that his concerts are still affordable for everyone! It is obvious that meanwhile he could ask for much higher payment, which would result in unpleasant ticket prices. I once wanted to see another quite famous countertenor, and it turned out that in the same house, and even only with one accompanist instead of a whole orchestra, ticket prices were twice of those for PhJ! I am certain that PhJ handles it like this because for him, not to earn money, but the music and those who want to hear it are most important.

By the way, do you already know that Philippe will sing the main role in an opera about Acis and Galatea in Bremen in 2014? Is it already general knowledge or still a secret?
