Back in November, by pure accident, I hit the You Tube video clip of Pluhar/Jaroussky’s performance of Ohime chi’o cando, and my world changed. In the many decades of listening to classical music, my interest was generally in composers or works but not in performers. Moreover, I had little interest in solo vocal music and even less in opera. Although, since my favourite field is early music, I did have some interest in countertenors but nothing very much to make a point. And here I am, since that fatal (!) day, I have been listening to any solo voice that comes on BBC Radio 3 (I’m based in the UK) and reading concert and CD reviews trying to work out just what it is that this particular singer moves me so much. Alas, as I have little knowledge about vocal art and have no one around me to talk about such subject, I was beginning to think, ‘if I don’t talk to somebody about this, I’ll go mad’. Well, I found you just in time. I look forward very much to be enlightened by you all.

So.."My first online meeting with Philippe " [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] was also quite accidental..in my case it was "Vedro con mio diletto" on YT...It was like a bolt out of the blue [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]..first time I listened, then a second ...third ...with every next time I accustomed to this beauty...and I was surprised not so much his very high
voice but this naturalness, virtuosity, technique, purity, angelic voice and also his charming
look [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]...Then I saw a concert with Ambronay with L'Arpeggiata and I thought ....they 're really professional, authentic and they simply enjoy making music together!
I was stunned and so excited!..and so this is my adventure [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Generally classic music has always accompanied me but not with such intensity.Well
my life has changed,too.. for the better! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I began to perceive music differently than previously.and inspired by his
passion and love for music, I return to the music world! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Uff end [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] .. sorry for the terrible English...

Well, in May (I guess, on 10th May) 2007, quite by chance - I was just searching for some "new" baroque music - I´ve found Philippe´s little promo - video on EMI- Classic site and was immediately and completely overwhelmed. Such an modern young guy in a jeans, tall and slender, with a short hair, quite like an one from the neighbourhood... It was like an lightning.....I sat there in a front on my PC with an opened mouth and couldn´t stop watching and listening, couldn´t believe in this - I was like in a fever, drunk with him , not only with his voice, but even with his manner to sing, with his devotion to music, to the moment of singing , his incredible honest expression... and his sensitive power. It was an Revelation....the second one after Mylord Rochester. But that´s another story.

Hi everyone!

Well, I have finally registered here! I've been listening to Philippe since the spring of 2007, when I somehow discovered the first videos posted on YT. I was amazed by how his voice sounded so different from the usual countertenor. I was also impressed by his vibrant personality and exquisite musicianship, and his enthusiastic joy in singing!

You might recognize my name from the YouTube channel LydianAirs - it has some videos (music only) of Marc Andre Dalbavie's "Sonnets" composition written for Philippe. (Of course, it's modern music, so a lot of the baroque fans don't like it to much...maybe there are just a few of us that love this new work... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] )

Anyway, greetings to you all!

-Mercedes

Welcome, dear Mercedes! I´m very glad , you are finally here !

And thank you very much for uploading this rare modern piece by Dalbavie!
Sung by Philippe it is a gem, though I ´m not a really admirer of this kind of music. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Bonjour!

That´s great - you´ve seen Philippe live just a few days ago and you´ll attend "Poppea" in Madrid soon! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hello friends and thank you to *JaRoWi1647*, the biggest Philippe's fan of all the world, isn't it ??

For myself, I've discovered Philippe enough late, with Heroes and as for Jana it was a big REVELATION !! What a perfect sound and what a delicate singing !
I was lucky because the following year, he came near from my home :
- first, I could see him in Nancy with Les Arts Florissants for the Sant Alessio. It was incredible, like a dream
- then it was in Lausanne for a recital of French melodies
- the 6 september 2008, I've seen and heard the most beautiful moment of music of my life : l'Arpeggiata and Philippe singing sacred music of 17 century in Froville: Audi coelum was the title of this concert and I could even speak to Philippe and give him flowers !!!
- and at least, in Suisse with Marie-Nicole Lemieux for a recital of arias from operas of the 17th century

And now, I'm waiting for the 18 June to hear him in Froville again, singing Purcell.

I'm very happy of the creation of this website and glad to speak to people who have the same "addiction" than me !!

To me - since my first meeting Philippe on 22.03. 2008 in Berlin I attended 15 of his concerts in Paris, Hannover, London , Potsdam, Salzburg, Bremen, Hamburg, München , Bad Kissingen and Kraków ...no, to be precise - 14 and a half ... exactly ... Hi!!

You are rigth: it would be difficult for me to understand russian, polish or other languages; but my english is very very short, I can read, more or less, but I've not practice in writing... but I'll try.

I said that I discovered Jaroussky in his performance in Ambronay 2008, presented on chanel MEZZO. After this day I'm addicted to his voice, his charme and nice character. I think he's now the best counter-tenor, although I apreciate Daniels, Sabata or Cencic too.

Thank you for your wellcome!

See you soon, in the forum!

Dear Mercé !

Thank you a lot for your understanding! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ( I used an online- translator to read your French- speech, don´t worry! )
Also my English is very "short" , learned self for myself only because of Mylord John Wilmot ( the second Earl of Rochester) - my "subject" as well . [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] He was and is my "private" English teacher - thank his great poetry and his incredible letters , which I translated into Russian as the first and only one at all. But it´s another story.

He he...that was the story.... I haven´t got a ticket for Philippe´s benefit - concert for IRIS , but I went to Paris, though - only to see him and to give him some flowers.
I meet him before the concert in Sorbonne and Philippe allowed me to stay there while his rehearsal with Jérôme Ducros . I was only one person as "audience" . That was my very private "half a concert", the most precious and unforgettable.

Hi, friends!
I use an on line dictionnary too, to write in english. I studied several courses, many years ago, but I can't practice it. Well, now i'll do, in the Jaroussky's forum!

Ooooooooohhhh!!! NoteSenblie: I'm jalous of you!! What a great chance, all Jaroussky for you!! Really unforgettable.

Now, a little question: do you know the text of the anonyme "air de cour" Aux plaisirs, aux délices bergères... with music by Pierre Guédron? You can listen it on the link below. I can't understand all the words and I could'nt find the complete text in Internet

Can you help me? Thanks![You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Mercé
Why are you jealous on NoteSensible? It was "my" concert! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I´m not sure about this text, but I ´d search.

(P.S. Three hours later......)

Aux plaisirs, aux délices bergères
.

Aux plaisirs, aux délices
bergères
Il faut être du temps menagères:
car il s’écoule et se
perd d’heure en heure,
et le regret seulement en demeure.
A l’amour, aux plaisirs, aux boccage,
employés les beaux jours de votre
âge.

Maintenant
la saison vous convie
de passer en aimant votre vie:
déjà la
terre a pris sa robe verte,
d’herbe et de fleurs la campagne est
couverte.
A l’amour etc.

Ce qui vit, qui ce meurt, qui
respire,
d’amour parle, ou murmure ou souspire:
aussi le coeur qui
n’en sent la pointures
’il est vivant, il est contre nature.
A l’amour etc.

To pleasure! To pastoral delights!
Time must be employed to the fullest,
for it is running out hour by hour,
and only regret remains with us.
To love! To pleasure! To the woods!
Use the beautiful days of your age.
Now the season invites you
to spend your life with loving:
already the earth is shrouded in green,
and the countryside is covered with grass
and flowers.
To love! etc.

Whoever lives, dies or breathes,
whoever speaks of love, murmurs or sighs:
if a heart which is alive hasn’t been struck,
it is against nature.
To love! etc.

Well, about my first online meeting... In fact it was not the first meeting (far not the first), but crucial - the one! Last August on YouTube for the first time I guess has appeared not so new (2002 year), but rare record "Cum Dederit" from a telecast "Musiques au coeur: Les quatre saisons de Antonio Vivaldi" with Ève Ruggiéri. (I have seen this video thanks to my friend's Il Ragazzo YouTube channel).
This videorecording of absolutely young and so innocently-passionate Philippe and this sublime aria (I do not perceive it as religious, but as spiritual) has broken the ice. blush And the most important thing, it happens in a very right time. I was not in the best condition of spirit and Philippe has helped me with that... Moreover, soon he has helped me to recollect almost forgotten pleasure of music that I received very long time ago but have lost in due course - of ALL good music - from opera to punk-rock! dance So, let it be!

Dear NoteSensible,

Yes, I know it was for Il Ragazzo this marvellous concert: I've made a mistake answering the post.
Now I'm jealous of Il Ragazzo and of you too!!.

Anyway, I've Philippe's signature on the booklet that accompanies "La dolce fiamma". In Toulouse, I asked him to sign just on the page of "Caratacco". Philippe, with a charming smile of satisfaction, told me that it was his favorite air in this CD... an I agree with him!
I think we don't lose anything, while we can ear his voice and, from time to time, to see him..

Best regards

Good morning, J.E.S., from Barcelona!!

What a funny sentence: "music is the brandy of the damned" I will be happy to be damned if I could drink this brandy for eternity!!

Baudelaire wrote: "il faut être toujours ivre: de vin, de poésie ou de vertu; à votre guise..." We could added "ou de musique"

I guess you know that spanish TV broadcast "Incoronazione di Poppea" on 18th may from Teatro Real. Pay attention!!!

You're right!! Is only on the radio and not on TV.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
When I read on your schedule "broadcast live..." I thought it was on TV. I rarely listen to the radio and I watch rarely spanish TV but occasionally I know that they broadcast an opera or concert live from Teatro real.

You know, the hungry dream of bread...

J.E.S.: I apologize! You can only hear La incoronazzione by radio

Thank you all! give heart
I feel very welcomed!

About tonight's show... Well, I don't mind just listening, actually.
The sound quality might even be better. Some comfort to you. smile

To be honest, I'm not so much into watching classical music in general (not even opera) on television, I always feel so sad and anxious because I'm not there on the spot. It's often like torture for me! But of course, often DVD:s are the only way to see certain pieces, nobody has the time nor money to travel and see and hear all good music in the world live. It's somehow different on radio even though it's live as well, it's more close to listening records. I'm not a big fan of television anyway so that might explain a lot too. But yes, I'm so unhappy because I wasn't able to travel to Madrid to see L´incoronazione di Poppea live. I live so near!

Enjoy the show tonight, I'm sure I will!

Hi! I have been trying to get into the forum forever, and due to my non-existent abilities with the computer,web,log-ins,etc ....But I love this whole group of people who admire Philippe, and I have met some very dear friends, like Jana. I discovered Philippe by pure chance, I bought his Carestini album and I was amazed at his voice, then I saw him in some you tube videos from BaroqueFever (thank you,Nina) and I was hooked on his magic.I have painted him in oils and pastels, to me he is a bright shining light that illuminates so many lives. I am very grateful to him. I met him once with Jana, he was a gorgeous modest young man, very kind and considerate. Thanks to him I am in a world of music, friends who I can relate to, and travel. And of course Jana the magic lady who spreads joy and fun, so important! Hugs to all. friends

There have been so much discussed about this opera and PJ's role in it that it is hard to get a fair picture. I just read a piece written by Carestini in Una Noche en el teatro Real that amazed me for an informed well written and comprehensive take on each element. I wrote a translation AND asked him if I may share it and I will wait for his answer. But it let me see a new appreciation of Philippe's Nerone and I am more eager than ever to see him.
Although I wish I could have seen him in person!!!!But Il Ragazzo hello will tell us all about him when he comes down from heaven... kiss give rose

friends welcome!

It's high time I join! My family and friends are fed up with my talking about Jaroussky all the time, and I'm fed up with their not being interested...

So hi to all like-minded people here!
